Regular Season Round 23: Toros - Huracanes 101-70

No shocking result in a game in Nuevo Laredo where fourth ranked Toros (18-5) smashed 8th ranked Huracanes (11-10) 101-70 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Toros. Huracanes managed to win third quarter 19-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Toros forced 19 Huracanes turnovers and outrebounded them 40-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. It was a great evening for American-Nigerian forward Ike Ofoegbu (205-85, college: SMU) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Lonnie Ellis Vasquez (198, college: Mississippi Coll.) helped adding 23 points. Four Toros players scored in double figures. Toros' coach Jose Martinez felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American swingman Marcus Morrison (198-84, college: Middle Tenn.St.) responded with 23 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and the other American import center Donald Little (211-78, college: Cincinnati) scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. Toros moved-up to third place, which they share with Halc.Rojos. Huracanes at the other side dropped to the ninth position with ten games lost. Toros will meet at home Correcaminos (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Huracanes will play against Fuerza Regia in Monterrey and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
