There was no surprise when 9th ranked Sydney Uni Flames (1-7) were defeated at home by second ranked Bendigo Spirit (8-1) 91-76 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Bendigo Spirit. Sydney Uni Flames was better in second period 21-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Bendigo Spirit made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Bendigo Spirit outrebounded Sydney Uni Flames 35-21 including 22 on the defensive glass. The former international point guard Kristi Harrower (166-75) fired 29 points and 5 assists for the winners. American forward Kelsey Griffin (188-87, college: Nebraska) chipped in 22 points and 8 rebounds. Bendigo Spirit's coach Bernie Harrower allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. International guard Alicia Poto (166-78) produced 12 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and the former international forward Rohanee Cox (182-80) added 18 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Five Sydney Uni Flames players scored in double figures. Bendigo Spirit keeps a position of league leader. Loser Sydney Uni Flames stay at the bottom place with seven games lost. Bendigo Spirit will face Adelaide Lightning (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day.
