Regular Season Round 7: Ottawa - McMaster 82-55
Date: November 16, 2012
There was a small surprise when sixth ranked Ottawa (1-2) outplayed at home 6th ranked McMaster (1-2) 82-55 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Ottawa. McMaster was better in second period 15-8. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Ottawa forced 19 McMaster turnovers and outrebounded them 50-28 including a 23-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for forward Maddie Stephen (186) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 15 rebounds. Power forward Jenna Gilbert (183, college: La Salle) contributed with 17 points for the winners. Four Ottawa players scored in double figures. Guard Danielle Boiago (170) answered with 11 points and guard Elizabeth Burns (170) added 9 points in the effort for McMaster. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ottawa left bottom position moving up to third place, which they share with 6 other teams including defeated McMaster. Ottawa will face league's leader Brock in Catharines in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. McMaster will play on the road against Carleton in Ottawa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
