Date: November 17, 2012
There was no surprise in Gwynneville where 6th ranked Cairns Taipans (3-5) were defeated by second ranked Wollongong Hawks (6-1) 73-59 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after three quarters before their 24-7 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Wollongong Hawks dominated on the defensive end, holding Cairns Taipans to just 7 points in fourth quarter. It was a great evening for Dominican guard Adris Deleon (180-84, college: E.Washington) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points. The former international power forward Oscar Forman (205-82) helped adding 15 points and 9 rebounds. At the losing side the former international power forward Alexander Loughton (205-83, college: ODU) responded with 14 points and 9 rebounds and American forward Shane Edwards (201-87, college: UALR) scored 6 points and 6 rebounds. Cairns Taipans' coach let to play ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Wollongong Hawks maintains second place with 6-1 record behind leader Breakers. Loser Cairns Taipans keep the sixth position with five games lost. Wollongong Hawks will meet Melbourne Tigers (#7) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
