Regular Season Round 5: Segle XXI - Gernika 62-56

There was no surprise when 11th ranked Gernika (1-4) lost to seventh ranked Segle XXI (3-2) in Barcelona 56-62 on Saturday. However just six-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Gernika was tied after three quarters but could not keep up in the last quarter eventually losing the game. They outrebounded Gernika 43-29 including 16 on the offensive glass. Point guard Angela Salvadores (175-97) orchestrated the victory by scoring 19 points and 6 rebounds. Yaiza Rodriguez (165-95) contributed with 14 points and 4 assists for the winners. American power forward Tynikki Crook (185-89, college: Marshall, agency: Regeneracom Sports) answered with 23 points and 8 rebounds and Bulgarian forward Evelina Guneva (183-80, agency: Interperformances) added 13 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Gernika. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Segle XXI moved-up to fifth place in Group B, which they share with Asefa Estud. and Alcobendas. Gernika lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the ninth position with four games lost. Segle XXI will face Fundal Alcobendas (#7) on the road in the next round. Gernika will play against the league's leader Real Canoe in Madrid.
