LNBP top team - Halcones UV Xalapa (22-2) managed to deliver another win on Saturday. This time they beat fourteenth ranked Gansos (4-21) 98-85. The game was mostly controlled by Halcones UV Xalapa. Gansos managed to win second period 28-26. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Halcones UV Xalapa made 21-of-25 free shots (84.0 percent) during the game. It was a good game for American guard LeRoy Hickerson (196-82, college: Cumberlands) who led his team to a victory with 26 points and 5 rebounds (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). The former international center Lorenzo Mata (205-86) contributed with 5 points and 18 rebounds for the winners. Halcones UV Xalapa's coach Angel Gonzalez used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Shannon Shorter (193-89, college: N.Texas) replied with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 10 rebounds and his fellow American import swingman Royce Gaye (193-88, college: Tex.A&M-Kingsv.) added 23 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Gansos. Halcones UV Xalapa have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 22-2 record. Gansos lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the fifteenth place with 21 games lost. Halcones UV Xalapa are looking forward to face Toros (#3) in Nuevo Laredo in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Gansos will play on the road against Lechugueros (#13) in Leon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
