Regular Season Round 8: UNBC - UBC Okanagan 71-79

There was a surprise result when seventh ranked UBC Okanagan (2-4) beat higher ranked UNBC (3-3) in Prince George 79-71 on Saturday. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But UNBC won third quarter 22-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. UBC Okanagan made 26-of-32 free shots (81.3 percent) during the game. UNBC was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Emily Kanester (168) orchestrated the victory by scoring 22 points and 9 rebounds (was perfect 12-for-12 from the free throw line !!!). Guard Sarah Allison (180-92) contributed with 24 points for the winners. UBC Okanagan's coach Heather Semeniuk used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Mercedes Van Koughnett replied with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists and Jennifer Bruce added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for UNBC. UBC Okanagan moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Winnipeg and Saskatchewan. Loser UNBC dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
