Socinsa Bembibre (#10) forced the game against Gran Canaria (#8) into a double-overtime, but lost by three points 85-88 on Saturday night. Socinsa Bembibre was trailing by 4 points at halftime but managed to get 8-point lead after three quarters before a 20-12 charge of Gran Canaria, which allowed them to tie the game at the end of regular time. They were better in double-overtime eventually winning that period 11-11. Gran Canaria shot 29 for 42 from the free-throw line, while Socinsa Bembibre only scored eleven points from the stripe. Socinsa Bembibre was plagued by 31 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a good game for Senegalese center Astou Ndour (196-94) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 18 rebounds. International power forward Vanessa Ble (190-91) contributed with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. American center LaNedra Brown (188-81, college: Seton Hall) replied with 17 points and 7 rebounds and power forward Rita Montenegro (188-82) added 15 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Socinsa Bembibre. Four Socinsa Bembibre players scored in double figures. Gran Canaria (3-3) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Caja Rural. Newly promoted Socinsa Bembibre dropped to the bottom position with five games lost. Gran Canaria will have a break next round. Socinsa Bembibre will play on the road against Hondarribia-Irun (#9) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
