Bottom-ranked Panionios (0-7) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 73-33 loss to third ranked Panathinaikos (6-1) in Athens on Saturday evening. The game without a history. Panathinaikos led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Panionios to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Panathinaikos dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Panionios' 24. Panathinaikos looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 2 passes made by Panionios' players. It was a great evening for American power forward Diana Delva (188-88, college: Hartford) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points and 12 rebounds (on 10-of-12 shooting from the field). Cypriot center Sophia Theologou (190-88) helped adding 13 points and 12 rebounds. At the losing side forward Zafiria Giabani (185-92) responded with 9 points and 6 rebounds and forward Enisa Semaniakou (183-88) scored 6 points and 6 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Panathinaikos maintains third place with 6-1 record behind leader AO Ellinikou. Panionios lost their seventh game in a row. They still closes the standings with seven games lost. They share the position with GAC Eunikos. Panathinaikos will meet Terpsithea (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Panionios will play against Ikaros Kalitheas (#7) in Glyfada and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
