No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Universidad de Valladolid (3-2) beat on the road bottom-ranked Arxil Pontevedra (0-5) 48-35 on Saturday. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 48-35. Universidad de Valladolid dominated on the defensive end, holding Arxil Pontevedra to just 2 points in third quarter and to 11 points in second half. Universidad de Valladolid forced 19 Arxil Pontevedra turnovers. Point guard Cristina Salinas (162-93) orchestrated the victory by scoring 14 points and 4 steals. Center Laura Correa (190-94) contributed with 9 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Russian center Olga Fedorova (189-78) answered with 9 points and 10 rebounds and Canadian center Zara Huntley (188-89) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Arxil Pontevedra. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Universidad de Valladolid maintains fourth place in Group A with 3-2 record, which they share with Oviedo. Arxil Pontevedra lost their fifth game in a row. They still closes the standings with five games lost. Universidad de Valladolid will have a break next round. Arxil Pontevedra will play against Pabellon Ourense (#9) and hopes to get finally their first victory.
