Regular Season Round 17: JX Sunflowers - Hitachi Cougars 109-86

WJBL top team - JX Sunflowers (15-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed tenth ranked Hitachi Cougars (4-11) in Kashiwa 109-86. The game was mostly controlled by JX Sunflowers. Hitachi Cougars was better in fourth quarter 25-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. JX Sunflowers dominated down low during the game scoring 82 of its points in the paint compared to Hitachi Cougars' 28. They outrebounded Hitachi Cougars 38-24 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. JX Sunflowers players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. The former international power forward Yuka Mamiya (185-90) nailed 22 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and international guard Yuko Oga (170-82) accounted for 20 points and 7 assists. Four JX Sunflowers players scored in double figures. JX Sunflowers' coach Kiyomi Sato felt very confident using entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Kasumi Takahashi (167-87) came up with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and international forward Mami Yamada (176-88) added 17 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Hitachi Cougars in the defeat. The victory was the fifteenth consecutive win for JX Sunflowers. Defending champion maintains first place with 15-0 record. Hitachi Cougars lost their third game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the ninth position with 11 games lost. They share it with Aishin AW and Ebara Vickies. JX Sunflowers will again play against Hitachi Cougars (#9) in Hitachinaka in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hitachi Cougars will have a break next round.
