Regular Season Round 24: Pioneros - Lechugueros 77-74

Thirteenth-ranked Lechugueros (6-18) were very close to win a game against fifth ranked Pioneros (17-7) in Cancun. Pioneros managed to secure only three-point victory 77-74. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 18-12. But Lechugueros won second period 18-14. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Pioneros won last quarter 21-20. They made 20-of-20 charity shots (100 percent !!!) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of the former international guard Forrest Fisher (193-80) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and American power forward Mike Williams (201-85, college: Cincinnati) who added 11 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Four Pioneros players scored in double figures. Pioneros' coach Josep Claros allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was naturalized American forward Eric Cuen (196, college: Grand Canyon) with 20 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard Greg Preer (191, college: Ashland) scored 14 points and 5 assists. Pioneros have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 17-7 record. Lechugueros lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the thirteenth place with 18 games lost. Pioneros will play against Barreteros (#10) in Zacatecas in the next round where they are favorite. Lechugueros will play against Gansos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
