Very significant was Maccabi T-A's (#3) 79-68 road victory against second-best Hapoel Eilat. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Hapoel Eilat. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The guests were ahead by 9 points but lost the second period ending it with a 3-point deficit before their 23-9 run, which allowed them to win the game. International Lior Eliyahu (206-85) notched 18 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and American center Malcolm Thomas (206-88, college: San Diego St.) supported him with 15 points and 7 rebounds. Four Maccabi T-A players scored in double figures. Even 22 points and 6 rebounds by American guard Scotty Hopson (200-89, college: Tennessee) did not help to save the game for Hapoel Eilat. His fellow American import forward Jerome Tillman (198-87, college: Ohio, agency: KMG Sports Management) added 17 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Maccabi T-A have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion (5-1) keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Netanya. Newly promoted Hapoel Eilat dropped to the third place with two games lost. They share the position with Maccabi Haifa and Hapoel T-A. Maccabi T-A will play against Hapoel Holon (#8) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hapoel Eilat will play against Hapoel Tel-Aviv (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
