NBL round 8 caused change at the leadership position. Second defeat of league's leader New Zealand Breakers (7-2) against fifth ranked Perth Wildcats (5-3) 89-64 was the most important game of the last round. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of New Zealand Breakers. The game without a history. Perth Wildcats led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to New Zealand Breakers' 34. They outrebounded New Zealand Breakers 41-23 including a 26-15 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international forward Shawn Redhage (203-81, college: Arizona St., agency: Warren Sports International) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points and 5 assists. American guard Kevin Lisch (188-86, college: St.Louis, agency: Warren Sports International) contributed with 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) replied with 15 points and 4 assists and his fellow American import power forward Will Hudson (206-89, college: Oakland) added 12 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for New Zealand Breakers. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Perth Wildcats moved-up to fourth place, which they share with 36ers. Defending champion New Zealand Breakers dropped to the second position with two games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Hawks. New Zealand Breakers will play next round against Melbourne Tigers trying to make it back to the top of the standings. Perth Wildcats will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Kings in Sydney.
