Regular Season Round 25: Panteras - Soles 108-101

There was an upset in Aguascalientes where much higher ranked Soles (20-5) were defeated by sixth ranked Panteras (17-8) 108-101 on Thursday. The hosts trailed by 4 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 3-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 108-101. Panteras shot the lights out from three sinking 18 long-distance shots on high 56.3 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Puerto Rican swingman David Huertas (195-87, college: Mississippi) stepped up and scored 29 points and 4 assists for the winners and Puerto Rican point guard Ricardo Melendez (179-83, agency: Paris Global Sports) chipped in 29 points and 4 assists. Panteras' coach Juan Cardona used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American center Kentrell Gransberry (206-85, college: S.Florida) responded with 25 points and Venezuelan swingman Jose Vargas (195-82) scored 16 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. Five Soles players scored in double figures. Panteras have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain sixth place with 17-8 record. Loser Soles keep the second position with five games lost. Panteras will face higher ranked Pioneros (#5) in Cancun in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Soles will play on the road against Barreteros in Zacatecas.
