Everything went according to plan in Zacatecas where fifth ranked Pioneros (18-7) beat 10th ranked Barreteros (11-14) 86-76 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 9-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-76. The former international center Joaquin Villanueva (207-86) stepped up and scored 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and the former international forward Hector Hernandez (206-85, college: Fresno St.) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side American guard Jason Horton (188-86, college: Missouri) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals and naturalized American forward Ramiro Loera Almanza (196-81, college: Cameron) scored 21 points. Four Barreteros players scored in double figures. Barreteros' coach Andres Contreras rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Pioneros have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 18-7 record. Loser Barreteros keep the tenth position with 14 games lost. Pioneros will face Panteras (#6) in Aguascalientes in the next round. Barreteros will play at home against the league's second-placed Soles (#2) in Mexicali.
