Not a big story in a game in Guanajuato where 12th ranked Guerreros (7-18) were defeated by eighth ranked Abejas (13-12) 107-91 on Thursday. The game without a history. Abejas led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Guerreros' 50 and made 17-of-22 free shots (77.3 percent) during the game. American forward Steffphon Pettigrew (195-89, college: W.Kentucky) stepped up and scored 32 points for the winners and his fellow American import forward Eugene Phelps (198, college: Long Beach St.) chipped in 20 points and 10 rebounds. Five Abejas players scored in double figures. At the losing side American-Puerto Rican power forward Angel Alamo (206-85) responded with 25 points and 8 rebounds and American forward Travis Gabbidon (201, college: UTSA) scored 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Abejas maintains eighth place with 13-12 record. Guerreros lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the twelfth position with 18 games lost. Abejas will face Gansos (#15) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Guerreros will play against Lechugueros in Leon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
