A very close game took place in Saskatoon, SK between Thunderbirds and Huskies. First ranked Thunderbirds (6-1) got a very close victory on the road over 3rd ranked Huskies (4-3). Thunderbirds managed to escape with a 3-point win 84-81 on Friday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Huskies. The guests started the game with a very strong first quarter 23-14. But Huskies won second period 19-17. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Huskies 40-29 including 29 on the defensive glass. American forward Brylle Kamen (201, college: San Jose St.) fired a double-double by scoring 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. The other American import guard Doug Plumb (193, college: Minnesota St.) chipped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Guard Patrick Burns (198) produced 17 points and 6 rebounds and guard Ben Baker (191) added 14 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Thunderbirds and four Huskies players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Thunderbirds maintains first position with 6-1 record, which they share with Alberta. Loser Huskies keep the third place with three games lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Thunderbirds will meet league's leader Golden Bears in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Huskies will play against the league's second-placed Vikies in Victoria, BC and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
