There was no surprise in Langley, BC where 6th ranked Spartans (2-5) were outplayed by fourth ranked Wesmen (5-2) 76-56 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Wesmen. Spartans was better in second period 17-10. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Spartans to just 7 points in fourth quarter. Wesmen forced 23 Spartans turnovers. American forward Benny Iko (198) had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Andrew Cunningham (186, college: Redlands CC) chipped in 11 points, 7 assists and 4 steals during the contest. Four Wesmen players scored in double figures. At the losing side forward Tyler Linttell (198) responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 13 rebounds and Mark Perrin scored 17 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Wesmen have an impressive five-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Victoria. Loser Spartans keep the sixth position with five games lost. Wesmen will face Cascades (#3) in Abbotsford, BC in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Spartans will play at home against Bisons in Winnipeg, MB and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
