Regular Season Round 11: Nantes - Lille 85-77

There was a surprise result when fourteenth ranked Nantes (5-6) beat at home higher ranked Lille Metropole (5-6) 85-77 on Friday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 25-20. But Lille Metropole won second period 20-19. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Nantes made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for Nicolas Gayon (190-82) who led his team to a victory scoring 23 points and 5 rebounds. American power forward James Mathis (200-84, college: Niagara, agency: Court Side) helped adding 14 points and 9 rebounds. Four Nantes players scored in double figures. Naturalized Congolese guard Loic Akono (177-87) responded with 22 points and 6 rebounds and American Jason Siggers (188-85, college: Albany) scored 23 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Nantes moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Lille Metropole. Lille Metropole lost fourth consecutive game. Nantes will face Charleville-Mezieres (#15) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
