Regular Season Round 10: TRU - Regina 64-84

Everything went according to plan when second ranked Regina (6-1) outplayed one of their biggest challengers Thompson Rivers (4-3) in Kamloops 84-64 on Friday. The guests trailed by 2 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 84-64. Regina made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Thompson Rivers turnovers and outrebounded them 55-34 including a 38-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a very good performance for American guard Michelle Clarke (170-88, college: Purdue) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 5 assists. Center Brittany Read (188-89) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Center Diane Schuetze (191) replied with 14 points and 9 rebounds and guard Jen Ju (170) added 20 points in the effort for Thompson Rivers. Four Thompson Rivers players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Regina have an impressive six-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 6-1 record having just -3 point less than leader Toronto Univ. Loser Thompson Rivers dropped to the third place with three games lost. Regina will face UBC Okanagan (#6) in Kelowna in the next round. Thompson Rivers will play at home against Brandon.
