Regular Season Round 12: VEF Riga - Ventspils 74-80

Undefeated VEF Riga (5-1) recorded its first loss at the home court. Hosts were defeated by fifth ranked Ventspils (5-1) 80-74. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of VEF Riga. It looked good early as VEF Riga took an 8-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Ventspils had a 25-12 second period charge getting the lead and VEF Riga was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 74-80. Ventspils brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. VEF Riga was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of international forward Janis Timma (201-92, agency: FCM) who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 5 rebounds and American point guard Donald Sims (185-87, college: Appalachian St.) who added 19 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was American-Bulgarian guard Earl Rowland (188-83, college: St.Mary's, CA) with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international Kaspars Berzins (213-85) scored 19 points and 8 rebounds. Ventspils moved-up to fourth place, which they share with defeated VEF Riga. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
