Regular Season Round 8: Ikaros Kalitheas - Panionios 75-54

Bottom-ranked Panionios (0-8) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 75-54 loss to seventh ranked Ikaros Kalitheas (4-4) in Glyfada. Panionios was ahead by 13 points at the halftime before a 48-14 second half run of Ikaros Kalitheas. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Panionios to just 5 points in fourth quarter and to 14 points in second half. Ikaros Kalitheas forced 33 Panionios turnovers. American center Jasmine Erving (187-90, college: CS Northridge) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds. The former international guard Theoni Tzegianaki (162-85) contributed with 16 points, 8 assists and 6 steals for the winners. Forward Zafiria Giabani (185-92) replied with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds and forward Enisa Semaniakou (183-88) added 17 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Panionios. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Ikaros Kalitheas have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to sixth place. Panionios at the other side still closes the standings with eight games lost. They share the position with GAC Eunikos. Ikaros Kalitheas will play against higher ranked Panathinaikos (#3) in Athens in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Panionios will play at home against PAOK (#4) in Thessaloniki and hopes to get finally their first victory.
