Regular Season Round 9: Guangdong - Yunnan 78-76

The game between third ranked Qujing Yunnan (5-4) and eleventh ranked Guangdong Dolphins (3-6) was the most important one in the last round on Saturday night. Qujing Yunnan was edged by Guangdong Dolphins in a tough game in Guangzhou 76-78. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Qujing Yunnan. The hosts trailed by 10 points after first quarter, but they rallied back winning two of next three quarters and won the game by 2 points. Guangdong Dolphins dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Qujing Yunnan's 30. Guangdong Dolphins forced 21 Qujing Yunnan turnovers. The best player for the winners was American Tamika Catchings (186-79, college: Tennessee) who scored 30 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals. International center Wei Wei (206-89) chipped in 14 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Lindsay Taylor (203-81, college: UCSB) who recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and forward Huan Zhai (178-89) added 24 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Guangdong Dolphins moved-up to tenth place, which they share with Heilongjiang and Jiangsu. Qujing Yunnan at the other side keeps the third position with four games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Guangdong Dolphins is looking forward to face higher ranked Liaoning Hengye (#5) in Anshan in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Qujing Yunnan will play at home against Beijing Great Wall and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
