Date: November 25, 2012
The most interesting game of round 8 in the JBL was a home defeat of 4th ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (9-7) to third ranked Panasonic Trians (10-6) 79-71 in the game for the third place. It ended the three-game winning streak of Hitachi Sunrockers. The guests trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 1-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 79-71. Strangely Hitachi Sunrockers outrebounded Panasonic Trians 44-31 including a 22-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Panasonic Trians especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 60.0 percentage. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Jameel Watkins (211-77, college: Georgetown) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 25 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists and international guard Kenta Hirose (193-85) who added 13 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Five Panasonic Trians players scored in double figures. American power forward Jamar Smith (206-80, college: Maryland) responded with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds and international power forward Joji Takeuchi (207-85, agency: N.E.T.) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Hitachi Sunrockers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Panasonic Trians maintains third position with 10-6 record having four points less than leader Toyota Alvark. Hitachi Sunrockers at the other side keep the fourth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Toshiba BT. Panasonic Trians are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Hokkaido L. (#8) in Saporro in the next round where they are favorite. Hitachi Sunrockers will play on the road against the league's second-placed Aishin Sea Horses (#2) in Kariya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
