Regular Season Round 7: Maccabi Ashdod - Maccabi Haifa 74-80

Very expected game when 10th ranked Maccabi Ashdod (1-5) was defeated at home by third ranked Maccabi Haifa (5-2) 80-74. It looked good early as Maccabi Ashdod took an 2-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Maccabi Haifa had a 22-19 second period charge getting the lead and Maccabi Ashdod was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 74-80. Maccabi Haifa made 16-of-21 charity shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Mexican point guard Paul Stoll (180-85) who helped to win the game recording 25 points. American Donta Smith (201-83, college: SE Illinois JC) contributed with 13 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. Five Maccabi Haifa players scored in double figures. point guard Guni Israeli (185-84, agency: Gross Zeev ISA) answered with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and American forward Diamon Simpson (201-87, college: St.Mary's, CA) added 21 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Maccabi Ashdod. Maccabi Haifa have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Netanya. Maccabi Ashdod at the other side keeps the tenth position with five games lost. Maccabi Haifa's next round opponent will be Bnei Hasharon (#9) in Hod Hasharon and are hoping to win another game. Maccabi Ashdod will play on the road against Galil Gilboa and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
