Regular Season Round 27: Gigantes - Abejas 81-93

Very expected game when 16th ranked Gigantes (2-25) lost at home to eighth ranked Abejas (15-12) 93-81 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Abejas. Gigantes was better in second period 22-21. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Abejas dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Gigantes' 38. American players dominated also this game. It was a good game for forward Steffphon Pettigrew (195-89, college: W.Kentucky) who led his team to a victory with 27 points. Forward Eugene Phelps (198, college: Long Beach St.) contributed with 21 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Forward Josh Almanson (205-82, college: Bowling Green) answered with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and forward Jermaine Johnson (201-85, college: Charleston, agency: Interperformances) added 22 points and 6 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) in the effort for Gigantes. Five Gigantes players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Abejas. They moved-up to seventh place, which they share with Fuerza Regia. Gigantes lost their eleventh game in a row. Newly promoted team stay dead last with 25 lost games. Abejas will face Osos (#15) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gigantes will play against Lechugueros in Leon.
