Regular Season Round 9: Sozh Gomel - Svisloch 94-69

There was no surprise when 7th ranked Svisloch (1-8) was crushed on the road by second ranked Sozh Gomel (7-1) 94-69. The game was mostly controlled by Sozh Gomel. Svisloch was better in third quarter 25-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Sozh Gomel dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Svisloch's 34. Sozh Gomel forced 21 Svisloch turnovers and outrebounded them 40-22 including a 31-12 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a good game for guard Kiril Sitnik (190-89) who led his team to a victory with 33 points (!!!). The former international point guard Siarhei Charykau (185-82, college: Yakima Valley CC) contributed with 19 points for the winners. Four Sozh Gomel players scored in double figures. Lithuanian point guard Vytautas Kamarunas (179-89) answered with 15 points and 5 rebounds and forward Anton Korneenkov (198-90) added 12 points in the effort for Svisloch. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Sozh Gomel. They maintain second place with 7-1 record behind leader Grodno-93. Svisloch lost their fourth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Sozh Gomel will play against league's leader Grodno-93 on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Svisloch will play against Borisfen (#6) in Mogilev and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
