The game had a very big importance for second-ranked New Zealand Breakers as it allowed them to take a leadership position. New Zealand Breakers smashed 7th ranked Melbourne Tigers in Auckland 94-64. The game without a history. New Zealand Breakers led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Melbourne Tigers' 38. They outrebounded Melbourne Tigers 49-27 including a 22-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. New Zealand Breakers looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by Melbourne Tigers helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Cedric Jackson (191-86, college: Cleveland St.) stepped up with a triple-double by scoring 28 points, 10 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals for the winners and New Zealand center Alex Pledger (213-87, college: Belm.Abbey) chipped in 10 points and 9 rebounds. Four New Zealand Breakers players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was American guard Jonny Flynn (183-89, college: Syracuse) with 15 points and forward Lucas Walker (203-84, college: St.Mary's, CA) scored 8 points and 7 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Melbourne Tigers lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with seven games lost. Melbourne Tigers will play next round against Townsville Crocodiles trying to get back on the winning streak. New Zealand Breakers will try to continue on its current victory against third ranked Kings in Sydney.
