Regular Season Round 13: Laurier - Ottawa 53-65
Date: November 30, 2012
There was a small surprise when fourth ranked Ottawa (4-3) beat 4th placed Laurier (3-3) in Waterloo 65-53 on Friday. The guests trailed by 10 points at the halftime before their 41-19 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Ottawa outrebounded Laurier 43-27 including 16 on the offensive glass. It was a very good performance for power forward Jenna Gilbert (183, college: La Salle) who helped to win the game recording 18 points. International guard Kellie Ring (178-93) contributed with 5 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Center Whitney Ellenor (190-91, college: Canisius) answered with 13 points and guard Lee Anna Osei (157, college: Trinity Valley JC) added 9 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Laurier. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Ottawa have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with St.Francis X. and Toronto Univ. Loser Laurier keeps the fourth position with three games lost. Ottawa will face Waterloo (#8) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Laurier will play against the league's leader Carleton (#1) in Ottawa.
