Regular Season Round 7: STU Tbilisi - Sokhumi 75-86

Sokhumi can celebrate finally their first win this season after five consecutive loses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Tbilisi, where they defeated STU (0-6) 86-75. It looked good early as STU took an 4-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then Sokhumi had a 22-15 second period charge getting the lead and STU was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 75-86. Sokhumi shot 27 for 41 from the free-throw line, while STU only scored seven points from the stripe. They outrebounded STU 54-43 including a 37-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Sokhumi brought some defensive toughness making 8 blocks. 29 personal fouls committed by STU helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was an exceptional evening for center Vakhtang Kadaria (205-89, college: Mineral Area CC) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks. Forward Irakli Chlaidze (199-89) accounted for 24 points for the winning side. Forward Giorgi Pirvelashvili (201-88) came up with 17 points and 8 rebounds and forward Tato Chachibaia (201-90) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively for STU in the defeat. Four STU players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sokhumi maintains ninth place with 1-5 record. It was STU's sixth loss in a row. They still closes the standings with six games lost. Sokhumi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Tbilisi to the arena Dinamo Tbilisi.
