There was a small surprise when eleventh ranked Gernika (2-5) won against on the road 9th ranked Tenerife (2-5) 69-62 on Saturday. Tenerife was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 1-point lead after three quarters before a 25-17 charge of Gernika, which allowed them to win the game. They made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Power forward Nerea Moreno (185-88) fired a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Bulgarian forward Evelina Guneva (183-80, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. Power forward Laura Bejarano (182-82) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and center Carla Rodriguez (185-93) added 14 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Gernika moved-up to ninth place in Group B, which they share with defeated Tenerife. Gernika will face higher ranked Casablanca (#5) in Zaragoza in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
