Rather expected game in Kariya where 5th ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (9-9) were defeated by second ranked Aishin Sea Horses (15-3) 71-57 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Aishin Sea Horses. Hitachi Sunrockers was better in third quarter 17-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Aishin Sea Horses dominated on the defensive end, holding Hitachi Sunrockers to just 7 points in second quarter. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points, 14 rebounds and 7 assists. International swingman Takatoshi Furukawa (190-87) chipped in 17 points. Four Aishin Sea Horses players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Jamar Smith (206-80, college: Maryland) who recorded a double-double by scoring 24 points and 11 rebounds and international power forward Joji Takeuchi (207-85, agency: N.E.T.) added 11 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Hitachi Sunrockers' coach let to play twelve players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the tenth consecutive win for Aishin Sea Horses. They maintain second place with 15-3 record behind leader Toyota Alvark. Hitachi Sunrockers lost their third game in a row. They keep the fifth position with nine games lost. Aishin Sea Horses will face Toshiba Thunders (#4) in Kanagawa in the next round. Hitachi Sunrockers will play on the road against Mitsubishi Dolphins in Nagoya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
