Regular Season Round 17: BC Nokia - PeKa 82-89

No shocking result in a game when second ranked Peli-Karhut (10-3) beat on the road 10th ranked BC Nokia (2-11) 89-82 on Saturday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Peli-Karhut made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 BC Nokia turnovers. American guard Miriam McKenzie (177-90, college: Loyola, MD) nailed a double-double by scoring 25 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals (was perfect 11-for-11 from the free throw line !!!) for the winning side and her fellow American import swingman Korinne Campbell (182-88, college: W.Virginia) accounted for 17 points and 19 rebounds. American guard Amani Franklin (180-88, college: Kentucky) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds and guard Katri Menna (170-86) added 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for BC Nokia in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Peli-Karhut have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain second place with 10-3 record having just two points less than leader Catz. Newly promoted BC Nokia keeps the tenth position with 11 games lost. Peli-Karhut will meet at home Kerava Energia Team (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. BC Nokia will play against Honka in Espoo and hope to secure a win.
