Regular Season Round 9: West Coast - Townsville F. 65-78

Rather expected game in Perth where 9th ranked West Coast Waves (2-10) were defeated by sixth ranked Townsville Fire (5-6) 78-65 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Townsville Fire. West Coast Waves managed to win fourth quarter 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The best player for the winners was guard Mia Newley (184-88) who scored 17 points and 6 rebounds. Forward Olivia Thompson (185-93) chipped in 14 points and 8 rebounds. Four Townsville Fire players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was New Zealand power forward Lisa Wallbutton (183-86) who recorded 17 points and 6 rebounds and guard Melissa Marsh (209-85) added 13 points respectively. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Townsville Fire moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Canberra C. West Coast Waves lost their fifth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with ten games lost. Townsville Fire will meet at home Logan Thunder (#7) in the next round. West Coast Waves will play against Adelaide Lightning and hope to secure a win.
