Regular Season Round 14: Queen's - Western 72-53

There was a small surprise in Kingston where fifth ranked Queen's (4-4) outleveled one of their biggest challengers Western (4-3) 72-53 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Queen's. Western was better in third quarter 23-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Western to just 3 points in first quarter. Queen's dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Western's 24. They outrebounded Western 39-25 including 28 on the defensive glass. Guard Liz Boag (160) scored 9 points and 11 assists to lead the charge for the winners and naturalized British forward Gemma Bullard (177-92) chipped in 16 points and 4 assists during the contest. Guard Laura Dally (180-92) responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds and guard Jenny Vaughan (175-90, college: Denver) scored 13 points and 5 assists. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Queen's moved-up to fourth place. Western at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. Queen's will have a break next round. Western will play on the road against Guelph and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
