Regular Season Round 18: TuRi - ToPo 61-68

Very predictable result in Turku where fourth ranked Torpan Pojat (9-5) defeated 9th ranked TuRi (3-11) 68-61. The guests took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 21-17. But TuRi won second period 15-13. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The former international power forward Niina Laaksonen (185-85) notched a double-double by scoring 21 points and 21 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Kaisa Valtakari (177-87, college: Dowling) supported her with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Even 15 points and 5 rebounds by Canadian guard Brittany Hedderson (175-90, college: Buffalo) did not help to save the game for TuRi. Center Margaret Makela (181-90) added 16 points. TuRi's coach Juha Ruohonen tested eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Torpan Pojat maintains fourth position with 9-5 record. Newly promoted TuRi keeps the ninth place with 11 games lost. Torpan Pojat will play against higher ranked Forssan Alku (#3) at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. TuRi will play against BC Nokia (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
