Another interesting game was a derby match between two teams from Tel-Aviv: Maccabi T-A (#1) and Hapoel Tel-Aviv (#4). Maccabi T-A (7-1) smashed visiting Hapoel Tel-Aviv (4-3) by 19 points 91-72. The game without a history. Maccabi T-A led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. Maccabi T-A forced 19 Hapoel Tel-Aviv turnovers. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Hapoel Tel-Aviv was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. The winners were led by international Lior Eliyahu (206-85) who scored that evening 20 points and 4 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) and international point guard Yogev Ohayon (187-87) supported him with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Five Maccabi T-A players scored in double figures. Maccabi T-A's coach David Blatt allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 20 points and 7 assists by American point guard Demontez Stitt (186-89, college: Clemson) did not help to save the game for Hapoel Tel-Aviv. His fellow American import power forward Jeff Allen (201-87, college: Virginia Tech) added 14 points and 13 rebounds for the guests. Maccabi T-A have an impressive five-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 7-1 record. Newly promoted Hapoel Tel-Aviv dropped to the fifth place with three games lost. They share the position with Maccabi Rishon. Maccabi T-A will play against GreenTops Netanya (#4) on the road in the next round. Hapoel Tel-Aviv will play against Hapoel Holon and hopes to get back on the winning track.
