Regular Season Round 18: Honka - BC Nokia 89-76

Date: December 2, 2012
Not a big story in a game in Espoo where 10th ranked BC Nokia (2-12) was defeated by seventh ranked Honka (8-6) 89-76. The hosts were ahead by 1 point but lost the second period ending it with a 3-point deficit before their 29-13 run, which allowed them to win the game. Honka shot 37 for 50 from the free-throw line, while BC Nokia only scored twelve points from the stripe. Honka forced 19 BC Nokia turnovers. BC Nokia was plagued by 34 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Melissa Jeltema (175-88, college: Oakland) notched a double-double by scoring 39 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds to lead the effort and forward Tuuli Menna (183-96) supported her with 22 points and 9 rebounds. Honka's coach Jussi Laakso allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 16 points and 5 rebounds by guard Katri Menna (170-86) did not help to save the game for BC Nokia. Power forward Tiia Lyytikainen (183-87) added 10 points and 8 rebounds. Four Honka and five BC Nokia players scored in double figures. Honka moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Huima. BC Nokia lost third consecutive game. BC Nokia at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the tenth position with 12 games lost. Honka will play against Kerava Energia Team (#8) on the road in the next round. BC Nokia will play against TuRi in Turku and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
