There was no surprise in Kariya where 5th ranked Hitachi Sunrockers (9-9) were defeated by second ranked Aishin Sea Horses (15-3) 60-52 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 7-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 60-52. The best player for the winners was the former international power forward J.R. Sakuragi (206-76, college: UCLA) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 15 rebounds. American center Ryvon Covile (206-84, college: Detroit Mercy) chipped in 16 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was international power forward Joji Takeuchi (207-85, agency: N.E.T.) who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and American power forward Jamar Smith (206-80, college: Maryland) added 16 points and 11 rebounds respectively. Hitachi Sunrockers' coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. The victory was the tenth consecutive win for Aishin Sea Horses. They maintain second place with 15-3 record behind leader Toyota Alvark. Hitachi Sunrockers lost their third game in a row. They keep the fifth position with nine games lost. Aishin Sea Horses will face Toshiba Thunders (#4) in Kanagawa in the next round. Hitachi Sunrockers will play on the road against Mitsubishi Dolphins in Nagoya and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
