Regular Season Round 9: Forca Lleida - Melilla 87-70

There was no surprise when 14th ranked Melilla Baloncesto (1-8) was defeated on the road by twelfth ranked Lleida Basquet (3-6) 87-70 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Lleida Basquet. Melilla Baloncesto was better in second period 26-18. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Lleida Basquet won last quarter 32-16. Lleida Basquet looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American-Italian power forward Dominic Calegari (208-87, college: Cal-Davis) who had a double-double by scoring 25 points and 11 rebounds. Forward Miguel Feliu (200-85) chipped in a double-double by scoring 11 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Jesus Castro (191-83) who recorded 19 points and the former international forward Francisco Sanchez (201-79) added 14 points respectively. Four Melilla Baloncesto players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Lleida Basquet moved-up to ninth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Melilla Baloncesto lost their eighth game in a row. Loser Melilla Baloncesto stay at the bottom position with eight games lost. Lleida Basquet will face higher ranked FCB Regal II (#8) in Barcelona in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Melilla Baloncesto will play at home against Ourense (#13) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
