Very important is a home loss of third ranked Niigata Albirex (10-6) against fifth ranked Akita Happinets (10-4) on Sunday night. Host Niigata Albirex was defeated by Akita Happinets in a tough game in Niigata 97-104. The guests trailed by 5 points at the halftime before their 64-52 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Niigata Albirex outrebounded Akita Happinets 36-21 including a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 60.0 percentage. The game was also dominated by American players. Guard Dion Harris (190-85, college: Michigan) stepped up and scored 25 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners and swingman Jordan Demercy (200-88, college: Georgetown, KY) chipped in 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Nile Murry (193-83, college: TCU) responded with 23 points and 7 rebounds and center Chris Holm (212-84, college: Vermont, agency: Top Notch Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Akita Happinets moved-up to fourth place. Loser Niigata Albirex dropped to the second position with six games lost. They share it with Shimane SM and Fukuoka Rizing. Akita Happinets will meet at home Yokohama BC (#6) in the next round. Niigata Albirex will play against Sendai 89ers (#9) and hope to secure a win.
