Regular Season Round 8: Galil Gilboa - Maccabi Ashdod 90-70
Date: December 2, 2012
Bottom-ranked Galil Gilboa managed to get the second consecutive victory on Sunday night. This time they outleveled tenth-ranked Maccabi Ashdod in Rosh Pina 90-70. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 20-point difference suggests that Galil Gilboa is in a good shape to leave the bottom place. And what about a second win in a row after ...six consecutive loses. The game was mostly controlled by Galil Gilboa. Maccabi Ashdod managed to win second period 22-16. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Galil Gilboa shot the lights out from three sinking 15 long-distance shots on high 55.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Jamar Smith (191-87, college: S.Indiana, agency: KMG Sports Management) who scored 22 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Guard Gianni Cantagalli (196-88, agency: Players Group) chipped in 10 points and 7 rebounds. Galil Gilboa's coach Lior Lubin used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Diamon Simpson (201-87, college: St.Mary's, CA) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and guard Giuseppe Anello (188-88) added 14 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Galil Gilboa (2-6) moved-up to eleventh place. Maccabi Ashdod at the other side dropped to the bottom position with six games lost. Galil Gilboa will meet higher ranked Bnei Hasharon (#9) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Maccabi Ashdod will play against Hapoel Eilat and will have a slim chance for a victory.
