Regular Season Round 8: Maccabi Haifa - Bnei Hasharon 91-86
Date: December 3, 2012
Very expected game when 9th ranked Bnei Hasharon (2-5) was defeated on the road by second ranked Maccabi Haifa (6-2) 91-86. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 22-13. But Bnei Hasharon won third quarter 26-20. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. International point guard Gal Mekel (190-88, college: Wichita St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 9 assists. American-Mexican point guard Paul Stoll (180-85) contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Five Maccabi Haifa players scored in double figures. Maccabi Haifa's coach Brad Greenberg allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The former international forward Ben Rice (195-90, agency: Z.A.G. - Law Offices) replied with 27 points and 7 rebounds and American forward Jumaine Jones (203-79, college: Georgia) added 15 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Bnei Hasharon. Maccabi Haifa have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 6-2 record behind leader Maccabi T-A. Bnei Hasharon lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with five games lost. Maccabi Haifa's next round opponent will be Hapoel J-M (#7) in Jerusalem where they are favorite. Bnei Hasharon will play at home against Galil Gilboa in Rosh Pina and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
