Regular Season Round 9: Njardvik - Tindastoll 80-86

Tindastoll's fans can finally celebrate the first win of their team after seven consecutive loses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Njardvik, where they defeated Njardvik (3-6) 86-80 on Thursday. The guests trailed by 8 points after three quarters before their 28-14 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Strangely Njardvik outrebounded Tindastoll 47-35 including a 22-9 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American guard Drew Gibson (188-85, college: Wofford) nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists for the winning side and his fellow American import forward George Valentine (203, college: Winthrop) accounted for 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). Gibson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Tindastoll's coach Bardur Eythorsson used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American power forward Marcus Van (201-85, college: Cent.Michigan) came up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds and point guard Elvar Fridriksson (180-94) added 18 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Njardvik in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tindastoll maintains twelfth place with 1-7 record. Loser Njardvik dropped to the ninth position with six games lost. They share it with IR. Tindastoll will meet at home higher ranked IR (#9) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Njardvik will play against Keflavik and hope to secure a win.
