Regular Season Round 9: IR - Fjolnir 86-88

A very interesting game took place in Reykjavik. It ended with only two-point home defeat of 9th ranked IR (3-6) to tenth ranked Fjolnir (4-5) 88-86 on Thursday evening. IR was ahead by 2 points at the halftime before a 24-17 third quarter run of Fjolnir. They made 20-of-25 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was forward Jon Sverrisson (198-88) who had a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds. American guard Paul Williams (193-89, college: Dayton) chipped in 23 points. Four Fjolnir players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Eric Palm (188-87, college: McKendree) who recorded 43 points (!!!) (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) and Serbian-Canadian forward Nemanja Sovic (198-77, college: Pfeiffer) added 15 points and 7 rebounds respectively. IR's coach Jon Arnar Ingvarsson tried various players' combinations and tested in total eighteen players in this game, but that didn't help. Fjolnir moved-up to seventh place. IR at the other side keeps the ninth position with six games lost. Fjolnir's next round opponent will be league's leader Grindavik at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. IR will play against Tindastoll (#12) in Sauoarkrokur.
