Regular Season Round 9: Ilysiakos - PAOK 72-76
Date: December 8, 2012
Very predictable result in Athens where fourth ranked PAOK (7-2) defeated bottom-ranked Ilysiakos (1-8) 76-72. It looked good early as Ilysiakos took an 1-point lead at the end of first quarter. But then PAOK had a 25-18 second period charge getting the lead and Ilysiakos was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-76. It was a good game for point guard Kostas Haralampidis (189-76) who led his team to a victory with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line). The former international center Lazaros Papadopoulos (210-80) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. PAOK's coach Soulis Markopoulos allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American point guard Terrell Stoglin (185-91, college: Maryland) answered with 19 points and 8 rebounds and the other American import forward Ernest Scott (201-82, college: Valdosta St.) added 20 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Ilysiakos. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for PAOK. They moved-up to third place. Ilysiakos lost their eighth game in a row. They dropped to the bottom position with eight games lost. PAOK's next round opponent will be Panelefsiniakos (#12) in Eleusina and are hoping to win another game. Ilysiakos' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Athens to the arena Olympiacos.
