Regular Season Round 30: Panteras - Guerreros 117-104

There was no surprise in Aguascalientes where 13th ranked Guerreros (8-22) were defeated by fifth ranked Panteras (22-8) 117-104 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Panteras. Guerreros managed to win fourth quarter 29-25. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panteras shot 61.0 percent from the field. It was a great shooting night for Panteras especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.9 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 36 assists. Puerto Rican point guard Ricardo Melendez (179-83, agency: Paris Global Sports) scored 28 points and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Puerto Rican swingman David Huertas (195-87, college: Mississippi) chipped in 28 points during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Keith Gayden (202-83, college: Duquesne) with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field) and American-Puerto Rican power forward Angel Alamo (206-85) scored 15 points and 6 rebounds. Four Panteras and five Guerreros players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Panteras have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain fifth position with 22-8 record. Guerreros lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the thirteenth place with 22 games lost. Panteras will meet higher ranked Toros (#3) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Guerreros will play against Lechugueros (#12) in Leon and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
