Regular Season Round 23: Niigata - JX Sunflowers 58-100

WJBL top team - JX Sunflowers (21-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed sixth ranked Niigata (10-11) in Tokyo 100-58. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Niigata. The game without a history. JX Sunflowers led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Niigata's 30. They outrebounded Niigata 55-25 including a 25-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. JX Sunflowers players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. It was a quality performance for the former international power forward Yuka Mamiya (185-90) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds. Guard Aya Okamoto (161-91) accounted for 24 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Swingman Sangi Kanade (169-86) came up with 24 points and guard Seiko Kawakami (165-88) added 11 points respectively for Niigata in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. JX Sunflowers have an impressive series of twenty one victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 21-0 record. Niigata at the other side keeps the sixth position with 11 games lost. JX Sunflowers will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Niigata will play again on the road against the league's leader JX Sunflowers (#1) in Kashiwa and hopes to get back on the winning track.
