Regular Season Round 9: Hapoel Eilat - Maccabi Ashdod 83-73

There was no surprise when 12th ranked Maccabi Ashdod (1-7) was defeated on the road by third ranked Hapoel Eilat (7-2) 83-73 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 83-73. Hapoel Eilat shot 19 for 27 from the free-throw line, while Maccabi Ashdod only scored three points from the stripe. Hapoel Eilat had a 32-18 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was guard Scotty Hopson (200-89, college: Tennessee) who scored 20 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Forward Jerome Tillman (198-87, college: Ohio, agency: KMG Sports Management) chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds. Four Hapoel Eilat players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Mardy Collins (198-84, college: Temple) who recorded 25 points and 4 steals and forward Diamon Simpson (201-87, college: St.Mary's, CA) added 14 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Hapoel Eilat. They moved-up to second place. Maccabi Ashdod lost their third game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with seven games lost. Hapoel Eilat will face Bnei Hasharon (#8) in Hod Hasharon in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Maccabi Ashdod will play on the road against Maccabi Rishon (#7) in Rishon Le-Zion.
